While you wait for help
A few things that can steady a hard moment.
- You took something, and it will wear off. Intense feelings during an experience are temporary, even when they do not feel that way.
- Change your setting. Sit down, find a calmer room, dim the lights, put on quiet music. Small changes to your surroundings change a lot.
- Find a sober person you trust. You do not have to explain everything. Just not being alone helps.
- Breathe slowly. In for four, hold for four, out for six. Repeat. It tells your body it is safe.
- It is okay to call. Reaching out is not an overreaction. The people on these lines want to hear from you.
